"The calling of Cheriton Fitzpaine Methodist Church is to respond to the Gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission"

Welcome to the web-page for Cheriton Fitzpaine Methodist Church

At the heart of our Church life is our weekly worship, which takes place on Sundays, at 11am, with a variety of preachers from the Exeter area, and a monthly communion service. We are in the process of changing our worship area, introducing chairs instead of pews and creating a new internal foyer area, to make it more adaptable and flexible, both for worship and other use.

We are also a part of the wider Christian Church, having positive links with the local Parish Church of St Matthews; belonging to the Exeter Methodist Circuit; and supporting in particular the Fransisco Rojas School in Arequipa, Peru, where the sister of one of our Church members is the Headteacher.

We hope that you will find us a caring and thoughtful group of Christians, and our Thursday morning fellowship and study is an important part of our life together, where everyone's contribution is valued and where we grow together.

We are firmly committed to the understanding that our faith has to be expressed in our daily living, and so we are deeply integrated in the life of our community, both individually and as a Church.

  • To help communicate our faith and to serve the village, we run occasional Children's Activity Days;
  • To help the elderly of the community, we are a part of the Welcome Club, which provides mid-day meals in the chapel
  • On Saturday mornings the church is open both for coffees/teas and for local and charity stalls (the Agency)
  • On Saturday mornings also we host a village internet-access facility
  • Annually we organise a Parade Service for the local Brownies.

We also believe that our church building is a resource to be used for Christian mission and service, and so we are pleased that it is used for a variety of local needs, such as a community Toddlers Group, the Cheriton Out of School Group, and as a venue for CLEO (Cheriton Ladies Evening Organisation). Our current Church building dates from 1887 and was constructed by the Bible Christians, but it replaced an earlier Bible Christian chapel in the village begun in 1860.

As for special events, in recent years these have included ecumenical One World Week evenings, concerts by the Kiev Singers from the Ukraine, and special acts of worship as part of the Crediton Folk Festival.
