NOTES

 

 

(i)         A licence may be granted to an individual over the age of eighteen years or a corporate body.

 

* (ii)      It will be a condition of the licence that the carrying on of the business of a riding establishment shall be at no time left in the charge of any person under 16 years of age.

 

(iii)       (a)        “Horse” includes any mare, gelding, pony, foal, colt, filly or stallion, and also any

                        ass, mule or jennet.

 

            (b)        The Acts regulate riding establishments which let out horses on hire or use them

                        for the purpose of providing, in return for payment, instruction in riding or for the

                        purpose of demonstrating riding.

 

(iv)       No person shall keep a riding establishment without a licence.  Any such licence shall relate to the 12 months following the date on which it is granted, except where a Provisional Licence is issued for a period of three months.

 

(v)        An inspection by a veterinary surgeon on behalf of the Council as licensing authority will be arranged as soon as possible after receipt of the application.

 

(vi)       Cheques or Postal Orders should be made payable to Mid Devon District Council.

 

(vii)      Please complete and return this form to Mid Devon District Council, Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton, Devon, EX16 6PP.

 

 

 

 

I/WE HEREBY DECLARE that I/we am/are over 18 years of age and not disqualified by being convicted of any offence at any time under the Riding Establishments Act 1964; Protection of Animals (Amendment) Act 1954 from having the custody of animals; the Pet Animals Act 1951 from keeping a pet shop, the Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963 from keeping a boarding establishment for animals; or the Animal Welfare Act 2006 section 34(2), (3) and (4).
