Trade Waste - Duty of Care

What is Duty of Care

Duty of Care is a law which states that anyone who produces waste, unless the waste comes from you own household, has a responsibility to dispose of the waste safely. You must dispose of the waste through a registered waste carrier. You must also take all reasonable steps to store the waste safely until it is disposed of.

If you break this law you can be fined an unlimited amount

Duty of Care also states that you must have completed a Transfer Note, which must be signed by yourselves and your waste carrier. Mid Devon District Council will provide you with a copy of the controlled waste transfer notice. Existing customers should already have signed this form. If you are an existing Trade Waste Customer and do not think you have completed this paperwork you can use the e-mail link below and we will arrange to get the paper work to you. Please include your full business name and postal address, and your customer number if known, email: tradewaste@middevon.gov.uk
