Community Infrastructure Levy - CIL

The Council has prepared a draft Charging Schedule for the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

The aim of the CIL is to provide funding for infrastructure by placing a charge on new development. A charge can only be made where the development will remain viable. The Council commissioned reports to examine the viability of residential and non-residential development. These can be viewed using the links below. The Council also prepared an Infrastructure Plan alongside the now adopted Allocations and Infrastructure Development Plan Document (Local Plan Part 2) to demonstrate the infrastructure needs which CIL funds will be put towards and the potential for funding from other sources. This can be viewed on the Evidence Base page.

The draft Charging Schedule was subjected to Examination when an Examiner examined all relevant representations in November 2012. The Examiner's final report was published on February 20th 2013 and can be viewed below. At its meeting on the 9th May 2013, the Council's Cabinet agreed to recommend the adoption of the CIL charge of £40 per square metre and this will now be considered by the full Council meeting on the 3rd July 2013 (the report can be seen here. The Council expects to implement CIL by the 1st October 2013..
