Welcome to the Oakford village web-site.Oakford is a small village nestling in the hills between Dartmoor and Exmoor. The terrain is very hilly, so that walks tend to be rather energetic. It is a rural community with farming, dairy, beef, and chickens. There is a church, active village hall with excellent facilities, and several Bed and Breakfast places in and around the village. Access to the village centre is off the B3227 South Molton Road, at Hamslade Cross.
It is a very large parish of some 2200 acres and includes the smaller settlements of Oakfordbridge, Stuckeridge, High Bolham, Upcott, Spurway, and many outlying farms and houses. If you pay a precept to Oakford Parish Council you are part of Oakford! We hope that you will find this web site useful and join in with all the activities and events that take place in Oakford during the year. We look forward to hearing from you with ideas/comments regarding the web page, and especially articles and photos for including on the site. The monthly pub quiz will be held in the Village Hall until further notice, when hopefully we will be able to return to the Red Lion. Starting time is 8.15pm, bring your own drinks and food to share with the other quizzers (not too much there was a lot left over last time!)
There is a new Notice Board on the entrance to the Village Hall, which is for notices advertising community and social events (NOT business commercial). The Board was beautifully made by a local resident and funded by a grant from DCC. Please feel free to use it.
