Oakford Village

Welcome to the Oakford village web-site.

STOP PRESS: Trish Luxton will be in the Red Lion on Thursday (10th) evening, about 8pm onwards, to meet up with all her friends, on her way down to Lands End with her pony and carriage. Light refreshments available. She has had an epic journey to date, but most of the hard travelling is now done. She will be passing through Oakford at 3.30pm on Friday (11th) where she will meet up with the local MP, before she leaves again for Lands End. Come and wish her well for this last leg!

Oakford is a small village nestling in the hills between Dartmoor and Exmoor. The terrain is very hilly, so that walks tend to be rather energetic. It is a rural community with farming, dairy, beef, and chickens. There is a pub, the Red Lion, with accommodation, church, village hall with excellent facilities, and several Bed and Breakfast places in and around the village. Access to the village centre is off the B3227 South Molton Road, at Hamslade Cross.

It is a very large parish of some 2200 acres and includes the smaller settlements of Oakfordbridge, Stuckeridge, High Bolham, Upcott, Spurway, and many outlying farms and houses. If you pay a precept to Oakford Parish Council you are part of Oakford! We hope that you will find this web site useful and join in with all the activities and events that take place in Oakford during the year.

We look forward to hearing from you with ideas/comments regarding the web page, and especially articles and photos for including on the site. Please contact Kelvin Holdom on 01398 351573 or by email at holdomk@tiscali.co.uk
