Future High Streets Fund Bid for Tiverton
Mid Devon District Council has submitted an Expression of Interest to the Government’s Future High Streets Fund. The District Council has selected Tiverton town centre as the focus of the bid as it presents a number of meaningful opportunities for improvements that could be delivered through this fund. If successful it could accelerate the delivery of emerging town centre masterplan projects.
The Council has aspirations to regenerate the historic core of the town centre, creating an attractive, inviting and vibrant place that is capable of meeting the needs of businesses, residents and visitors. The town centre has great potential to better connect with its historic character and increasingly become a place where people want to spend time to enjoy the local environment. The District Council aims to make the area more vibrant by facilitating a different mix of town centre uses through bringing vacant and underutilised property back into use. This could include encouraging occupation by residential, leisure, food and drink and other commercial businesses. The town centre could also incorporate enhanced public green spaces, an attractive and well maintained built environment and become a popular place for evening visitors.
If successful with its Expression of Interest, the District Council will be given the funds to develop a more detailed business proposal for the town as part of the second phase of the bidding process. This would complement the Masterplan work currently underway with regard to the town centre.
