Beware of new council tax email scam!

We've been notified of a new email scam which is currently in circulation from “Online Council TAX UK”. This comes at a time when annual council tax bills are being sent to millions of homes across the country.

As reported first by Stroud District Council, the emails are addressed from a 'Miss Rourke' of 'Unity Partnership'...

Charges and bands

The amount of Council Tax that you have to pay is determined by the 'banding' of your property. The banding is assessed by the Valuation Office Agency, who are part of the Inland Revenue. Each property falls within one of eight bands.

Band property values as at 1 April 1991

A     Up to and including £40,000         E     £88,001 - £120,000
B   £40,001 - £52,000   F   £120,001 - £160,000
C   £52,001 - £68,000   G   £160,001 - £320,000
D   £68,001 - £88,000   H   Over £320,000

Once a property has been assessed, any improvements and/or alterations made to the property will not alter the banding until the property is sold.
