Gypsy and Traveller Forum

Mid Devon Gypsy and Traveller Forum Meeting, Friday 13 November, 3pm – 5pm, on-line through ‘Zoom’

Dear Gypsy and Traveller community,

We hope that you are all keeping well. This is an exceptional and difficult time facing everyone and we have all needed to make changes to the way we go about our lives in coping with the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are keen to keep in touch so that we can let you know about planning policy and our work to bring forward new sites and pitches to help provide homes for the travelling community in Mid Devon. We are also keen to hear about what is important and matters most to you, so that we can discuss this.

We are unable to hold to face to face meeting at the moment for health and safety reasons and due to the current restricted opening hours of the Council’s Phoenix House office. Therefore the next Forum meeting will be held on-line through ‘Zoom’ and will take place on Friday 13 November 2020, 3pm to 5pm.

We apologise that this may not be suitable for everyone, but hope that it will provide an opportunity for many to attend the meeting. The Forum meetings are for Gypsies and Travellers only. We kindly ask that you contact us at and we will provide you with more information about how to join the meeting using Zoom. This can be used through your internet browser, is free and no account is needed.

The draft agenda is below:

Local Plan policy update

  1. Research by De Montfort University
  2. Housing Enabling and keeping in touch
  3. Census 2021
  4. Occupancy of sites and availability of pitches
  5. Criminal Trespass legislation & proposals by Government (item raised by a member of the travelling community)

We look forward to hearing from you.

More information about how the Council’s services have been affected by covid-19 are provided on our website here:

We are keeping in touch with the Devon Gypsy and Traveller Liaison Officer about how the travelling community may be affected by the restrictions on social contact and travel and will keep this webpage up to date.

Some further information about the coronavirus has been published by the Friends Families Travellers (FFT) organisation:

If you need to contact us we are currently working away from the Council’s offices and are unable to take incoming telephone calls, but can be contacted by email on and will be in touch as soon as possible.

We setup a Gypsy and Traveller Forum which was approved by our Cabinet on 1 March 2018, and follows the good practice established by the Teignbridge Gypsy and Traveller Forum:

The Forum will usually take place twice a year, with meetings in the spring and in the autumn.

If you have any questions or would like to register your interest in attending, please email
