Gypsy and Traveller Forum

Dear Gypsy and Traveller Community,

We hope that you are keeping well through this exceptional and difficult time facing everyone in coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. With the Government’s relaxation of restrictions and the emergence of a new variant of the virus, we wish to bring to your attention the latest updated guidance for Covid 19 and those persons living a nomadic way of life.

It is our intention that the next meeting of the Gypsy and Traveller Forum will be held in the early autumn this year. This will provide an opportunity for us to tell you about:

  • a new Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment to help us understand your current and future housing needs,
  • the preparation of a new Local Plan for Mid Devon,
  • planning approval for 5 new pitches on a site allocation at Crediton, and
  • to hear about what is important and matters most to you, so that we can discuss this.

We will update this webpage when we are able to provide more information about the next meeting of the Gypsy and Traveller Forum.

More information about how the Council’s services have been affected by covid-19 are provided on our website here:

We are keeping in touch with the Devon Gypsy and Traveller Liaison Officer about how the travelling community may be affected by the restrictions on social contact and travel and will keep this webpage up to date.

Some further information about the coronavirus has been published by the Friends Families Travellers (FFT) organisation:

If you need to contact us we are currently working away from the Council’s offices and are unable to take incoming telephone calls, but can be contacted by email on and will be in touch as soon as possible.

We setup a Gypsy and Traveller Forum which was approved by our Cabinet on 1 March 2018, and follows the good practice established by the Teignbridge Gypsy and Traveller Forum:

The Forum will usually take place twice a year, with meetings in the spring and in the autumn.

If you have any questions or would like to register your interest in attending, please email
