Mid Devon District Council is about to commence a community governance review. The review will last one year (November 2021 to November 2022) and any changes will come into effect for the 2023 all-out elections. The Council will be reviewing all towns and parishes in Mid Devon, which could include:

  • creating, merging, altering or abolishing parishes;
  • changes to the naming of parishes;
  • the electoral arrangements for parishes (number of councillors, warding);
  • grouping parishes under a common parish council or de-grouping parishes.

A community governance review is required to take into account:

  • the impact of community governance arrangements on community cohesion; and
  • the size, population and boundaries of a local community or parish.

Once the review has begun all town and parishes will be contacted as part of the consultation process when the Terms of Reference, including the scope of the review, has been approved by Mid Devon District Council.
