About this job

Fixed Term 24 months - 37 hours per week
Salary: £3.70 per hour (from 1 April 2018)

An exciting opportunity has come up to join our Co-ordination Team in Public Health and Regulatory Services as an apprentice support officer. As a group, our vision and role is to protect and improve the health, safety and well-being of people who live, work within or visit Mid Devon.

Do you therefore want to earn and learn in one of the most diverse and interesting areas of local government regulation? The new Co-ordination Team will provide core business support, information management and specialist system administration across our group. It will also have a role in our specialist communications, including web and social media channels. As a result you will be at the heart of what we do.

The role’s main focus is supporting the Co-ordination Team Leader and other officers in the support of our front-line services. These services encompass a wide range of statutory functions such as Environmental Health, Licensing, Private Sector Housing, Community Safety and Emergency Planning. As you will respond to enquiries from the public, our Customer First team and other departments, you will need good communication skills to be able to give and log information and provide straightforward advice. We will train you so you have the knowledge you need. We’re looking for an approachable, keen and adaptable team player in this varied role. Having an interest in public health and helping people is essential, as is a methodical, accurate approach to work. You will also need the confidence to deal with sometimes challenging situations and a wide range of different people and agencies.

You will answer telephone calls and monitor emails on behalf of the group working out of the office, or at meetings and take minutes and provide support during events which may take place elsewhere.

You will need to ensure systems and databases are kept up to date and undertake other administrative and clerical duties ranging from electronic document management, arranging appointments, collating information and data to producing correspondence.
