We have an exciting opportunity to join our high performing Finance and Procurement Team. We are looking for a fixed term Finance/Procurement Apprentice based at Phoenix House, Tiverton and will be able to work from home. The successful applicant will benefit from full support and professional training.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen in our busy finance team for an apprentice to support the work of the Finance and Procurement functions providing administrative support to the wider Council in all aspects of finance and procurement activity.

This position would suit someone aspiring to work in the local government or business sectors with an interest in working within the finance sector.

The role is in two stages:

Initially working as part of the sales and purchase ledger teams, the individual will get an excellent grounding in the aspects of a council exchequer department, from making payments to suppliers to raising sales invoices. Support is available for a base level professional financial qualification (AAT level 2)

There will then be the possibility to transition into procurement where the individual will learn all aspects of public sector procurement. This will involve working with teams across the Council to obtain goods and services, including identifying routes to market, preparing, publishing and evaluating tenders and quotes, contract award and purchase order management. Further support could be available for a professional qualification in procurement (CIPS).

The role offers great variety, requiring involvement with a wide range of departments across the Council, such as ICT, Housing, Leisure, Planning and Waste & Recycling. Full training and support will be given by our friendly and experienced team giving you the skills and qualification to set you up for a career in a service that is in ever increasing demand.

About You

We are looking for a confident individual with good organisational skills who will be comfortable communicating with people by phone, email and in person. You should have good computer and numeracy skills with GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4-9/C or above (or equivalent) and be able to provide a good level of customer service.

About the Apprenticeship

During the first part of the apprenticeship working with the exchequer team you will undertake the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework. This will be approximately 12-15 months.

There could then be the opportunity to undertake the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Level 3 apprenticeship taking approximately a further 15 months to complete.

There will also be time spent away from day-to-day duties to complete coursework and assignments.

In return, you will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge in a busy office environment with the full support of an experienced team.
