About this job

PERMANENT: 37 hours per week
SALARY: £66,762 to £70,848
LOCATION: Tiverton

As a skilled and experienced local government legal professional, you’ll already be aware of the wide variety of interesting work that local authorities get involved in. This role will directly manage the legal team and land charges team (both with recent success in national awards), as well as our member services function including committee services. However, over and above your legal knowledge and management experience, we’re also looking for someone who can give confidence to elected members in this world of hybrid meetings and multi-agency contractualised delivery.

As the council’s statutory Monitoring Officer ultimately responsible for legal soundness and good governance in accordance with the constitution, you will be someone who can empathise with the varied views of stakeholders and provide a calm and assuring voice. Comfortable in your own professional space and able to communicate your knowledge, advice and views to others in a way that explains and reassures, while remaining flexible enough to grasp and respond to competing interests, demands and viewpoints.

The role will offer an ability for remote working, although there is an expectation of physical presence in Mid Devon on a week by week basis.

Relocation scheme available (if applicable)
