PERMANENT: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 
LOCATION: Willand, Devon 

Do you enjoy working outdoors, whilst playing a vital role for the community? We have opportunities for both Refuse Operatives and Refuse Drivers to join the team at Hitchcocks Business Park, Willand our established waste and recycling depot.

We are running an open day at our Hitchcocks Business Park depot, at Carlu Close, Willand. The Refuse Operative role could offer opportunities to progress your career with paid training to become a Class C (LGV) driver.

Refuse Loader

Refuse LGV Driver/Loader
Salary £21,575 to £21,968 Salary £24,496 to £26,845
Duties will include but are not limited to: Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • To work as part of a crew or lone working to collect and process waste or recycling materials from households, trade premises and other locations in Mid Devon within a round or rounds on the day specified (ensuring no collections are missed).
  • Delivering Waste and recycling containers to residents across the district
  • To help prepare the vehicle for unloading and remove all recycling materials on return to the depot.
  • To work in the depot when required, operating baling equipment and other depot duties as requested.
  • To drive up to LGV Category C and non-LGV vehicle when required.
  • To undertake daily vehicle checks.
  • To lead the crew to collect refuse from households, trade premises and other locations in Mid Devon within a round (ensuring no collections are missed)
  • To ensure all instructions on the driver’s notes are actioned.
  • To unload the vehicle at designated disposal or treatment sites as directed
  • To ensure that the vehicle is clear of all material at the end of the day and the cab is clean and tidy
  • Must be flexible in working arrangements due to seasonal/variations and new initiatives.
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to and to be aware of all procedures relating to the safe operation of the waste service.
  • Ensure a good standard of service at all times.
