A successful return for Mid Devon’s Landlord Networking Event
On the evening of Wednesday 14 May, the Council's Public Health & Housing Options Service held another informative event aimed at improving private rented accommodation.
Held at the Corn Barn in Cullompton, the event promised to help landlords be mindful of their legal obligations and to ensure their tenants have access to good quality, well managed and safe rental accommodation.
The evening’s line-up included an engaging keynote speech from TV’s Martin Roberts who, also a landlord himself, shared his experiences and insights with attendees. A presentation that covered planning needs and opportunities was provided by the Council’s Development Management Manager, John Hammond. Guy Horsington, Deputy Director Private Rented Sector (Strategy, Tenancy and Redress) from Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government also provided an informative talk covering The Renters Rights Bill.
There were a selection of stands from local businesses and services providing professional advice and information. Attendees were also able to view a demonstration of Mid Devon Housing’s damp and mould demo house, bringing understanding of ventilation and mould behaviours to life.
Councillor Jane Lock, Cabinet Member for Housing, Assets & Property Services, said:
“These forums are vital for building strong relationships, sharing best practices, and ensuring that together we continue to raise standards in the private rented sector.”
Comments from attendees were really positive and there was overwhelming support for further events in the future. Some of the comments at the close of the evening included:
- "Very pleased to see the event return – thanks."
- "Very good. Excellent. All landlords should experience."
- "Good presentations."
- "Fabulous venue."
- "Thank you for organising."
The Public Health & Housing Options Team offers it’s thanks to all who attended and in particular, the speakers and exhibitors, as well as Yta and Ian at the Corn Barn for hosting the event.
