Duty of Care

Duty of Care applies to recyclable waste as well as general waste. As a business, you are required by law to ensure that the waste you produce is correctly transported and disposed of in line with Duty of Care legislation. You must have completed a Waste Transfer Note, which must be signed by yourselves and your waste carrier. We will provide you with the controlled waste transfer notice.

The Pre-Treatment Regulations 2007 highlights that all waste created by the commercial and trade industry must be sorted to filter out items that can be recycled. We can help you ensure that you comply with these regulations. For further information, see  the Duty of Care regulations which give environmental guidance for businesses. Please contact us to discuss your requirements or book a free waste audit.

FAQs:

Waste (and Recycling) produced by businesses is governed by a Duty of Care and businesses are required by law to ensure that it is correctly transported and disposed of in line with the legislation.

Business Rates, unlike Council Tax for domestic properties, doesn't include a charge for collection and disposal of waste. As such, businesses are free to choose which service provider they use.

Your commercial recycling is collected and then sorted into different material streams and sent off to the reprocessors for recycling.

Waste produced by businesses is classed as Controlled Waste. All businesses that produce, store, transport, and dispose of Controlled Waste are required to comply with a Duty of Care under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Generally this involves taking out a contract or agreement with a Registered Waste Carrier.

No, we only require a 3 month written notice to terminate a collection, a minimum period may be implemented on large contracts (large contracts have at least 10 bins)

There are no hidden costs – the price quoted is the price you pay. We don't charge separately for the Duty of Care notice, bin rental, admin or health & safety charges. VAT is not charged on your waste collection.

Due to the way our trade waste recycling is currently sorted we are unable to collect glass and food waste.

There are also certain controlled waste products we do not collect: gas bottles, tyres, builder's waste, rubble, plaster board, asbestos, concrete and similar waste. Please contact us to discuss the disposal of these items.

No, as long as the bin can be moved by our operatives and lifted by the collection vehicle.
