Mid Devon District Council is taking another step toward increasing recycling rates with a new trial collecting old, unusable metal pots and pans.

This three-month initiative, running from 28 February to 23 May 2025, will be available only to selected properties in parts of Uffculme and Willand.

Since the launch of the Council’s three-weekly waste collection scheme, Bin-It 123, in October 2022, local recycling rates have significantly improved, with over 58% of all waste now being recycled. This trial is part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to help residents recycle as much as possible.

Residents included in the trial can place their old metal pots and pans on top of their recycling container for collection. However, the Council encourages people to consider reusing first - donating items in good condition to charity shops or passing them on to friends, family, or neighbours.

Councillor Josh Wright, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery and Continuous Improvement, said:

"Our community has made fantastic progress in recycling more, and we want to keep that momentum going. This trial is just one of the ways we are looking to make it even easier for residents to recycle everything they can. We appreciate everyone’s participation and feedback as we test this new collection."

The data gathered during the trial will help determine whether this service could be expanded across the district.
