Council’s Aspirations for Tiverton town centre revealed as consultation opens
Proposals for the future of Tiverton’s town centre are being showcased at a series of public events, as well as online.
The Tiverton Framework has now been published showing a number of proposals for key areas of the town centre including Beck’s Square, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton Pannier Market and improving the historic route between the River Exe and River Lowman.

All the proposals are designed to support Tiverton’s future growth and to make sure the town offers a diverse mix of uses, in an attractive setting which supports its market town heritage.
Key proposals include:
Pannier Market – a series of measures to improve visibility footfall and environmental quality including an exciting new entrance from Fore Street, will strengthen Tiverton’s identity as a market town.
Becks Square – New affordable housing built to high environment standards along with improved links between the museum and Fore Street and a new pocket park.
Phoenix Lane - to be transformed through tree planting, a new water feature and better paving, to welcome visitors to the town centre and becomes a destination in itself.
Rivers Exe and Lowman - The attractiveness of the historic spine of the town, between the rivers Exe and Lowman, will be improved through a series of measures to upgrade environmental quality and increase footfall.
An eight-week consultation period is now open and anyone with an interest in the future of the town centre is encouraged to share their views.
Three drop-in events are being held in Tiverton, where staff from the Economic Development planning team will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback, while the full details and survey are also available online.
Cllr Steve Keable, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said: “Tiverton is a town to be proud of. For those of us who live, work or visit this historic town, it lies close to our hearts with a rich heritage and a strong role at the heart of the community, as well as offering a space for businesses and administration. This framework will help guide future investment and regeneration for the town, making the most of new opportunities while protecting what makes Tiverton special. Our aim is to create a thriving, welcoming and sustainable town for generations to come.”
The consultation runs until 21 December 2026 and can be completed online.
