Creative Communities: Good News Stories! As the Creative Communities Grant Scheme continues to grow, so does its impact. Below is a snapshot of the inspiring work made possible through the programme—projects that enrich public spaces, strengthen community connections, and highlight the unique character of Mid Devon. These stories illustrate the real difference our investment is making on the ground.

The Walronds Escape Room:

The escape room experience at Walronds, a Grade I Listed building in the centre of Cullompton, welcomed participants to explore two themed rooms inspired by local history. Through solving puzzles, uncovering clues and working together to complete immersive challenges, visitors discovered the heritage of the historic 1605 building and gained a deeper understanding of local stories and significant historical events.

Delivered in partnership with The Weary Traveller, the programme also provided additional evening entertainment, helping people to connect, socialise and enjoy the town centre after hours.

Morfest:

The inaugural community music and arts festival brought the village together to celebrate local talent and community spirit. Organised by volunteers from across the village, the event showcased local bands, musicians, choirs, comedians, dance groups and craftspeople, with all performers drawn from the local area. The festival was supported by a wide range of village organisations, whose involvement helped create a successful community-led event and strengthen local connections.

The Steamer & Food Drink Devons Food and Drink Festival:

The inaugural Mid Devon Winter Food & Drink Festival brought together local food and drink producers, residents and visitors for a celebration of the area's rich culinary and cultural heritage. Held at The Steamer Coffee House & Kitchen and delivered in partnership with Food Drink Devon, the festival showcased a wide range of local producers alongside live performances from Mid Devon musicians and bands, creating a vibrant community event that championed local talent, creativity and produce.

Cllr Steven Keable, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said:

“It is fantastic to see the Creative Communities Grant Scheme supporting such a diverse range of projects across Mid Devon. From bringing local history to life and creating opportunities for people to come together, to celebrating local talent, food and culture, these events have made a real difference in our communities. They demonstrate the creativity, passion and community spirit that make Mid Devon such a special place, and we look forward to supporting more inspiring projects through the next round of the scheme."
