Cullompton market is back at the Bullring
Market traders are set to return to the Higher Bullring, Cullompton on Wednesday 14 February following improvement works to the town centre.
The weekday market will be back in the high street as it celebrates the completion of public space works. The market will be open from 9 am to 1 pm and promises a delightful experience with the special inclusion of weekend traders.
Visitors will be able to immerse themselves with live music, and a treasure hunt/trail to add an extra element of excitement, engaging visitors of all ages.
The Walronds will also be open and offering refreshments during market hours for those looking to recoup and recharge in the warm.
A time-honoured ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 am will mark the completion of extensive improvements aimed at creating a more vibrant and functional public space, bringing community members together.
The transformation of the Higher Bullring focused on enhancing its heritage setting, with a new square surrounding the war memorial. The project included high-quality paving, drainage, benches, planters, cycle parking, and bins, culminating in a visually appealing space designed for events and community activities like the market.
This initiative is supported by the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ), a national project led by Historic England to rejuvenate high streets across England. Cullompton, chosen as one of only ten places in the southwest, received significant funding amounting to £1.1 million from Historic England, along with match funding from Mid Devon District Council, Devon County Council, and Cullompton Town Council.
The Higher Bullring project is the first in a series of improvements planned for the Cullompton area. Alongside public realm enhancements, property owners and leaseholders had access to a grant funding programme, encouraging investments in the repair and restoration of their properties. Additionally, a cultural programme in collaboration with Creative Cullompton celebrates the town's rich history.
