Active Cullompton will remain closed until further notice following the arrival of a large number of travellers on a nearby field, owned by Devon County Council.

To support our loyal members during these exceptional circumstances, Mid Devon District Council is offering Active Cullompton members a £10 discount on their accounts. Members just need to speak to the reception team on their next visit to the centre, once we have reopened, who will apply the credit to their Direct Debit.

Cullompton members can continue to access our other leisure centres in Tiverton and Crediton, free of additional charge.

Councillor Josh Wright, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery & Continuous Improvement, said:
“We know how valued Active Cullompton is in the community, by our members, clubs and schools, and we understand the level of frustration and inconvenience this closure has caused. As a thank you to our customers for their continued loyalty we’re offering a discount to accounts which can be added as soon as customers can safely return to the centre.”

Mid Devon District Council, which operates the centre under the Active Mid Devon and Active Cullompton brand, is continuing to work with Devon County Council, the landowner of the field, which is pursuing the legal process required to remove the encampment.

Devon County Council has now served a notice which directs the travellers to move on within 24 hours. The issuing of this notice is the landowner’s responsibility, not the local police or that of Mid Devon District Council.

For clarity it has always been Mid Devon’s choice to close our centre due to safety concerns, and not that of the police or other external agencies.
