Residents are being encouraged to make the most of Mid Devon District Council’s convenient garden waste collection service.

The garden waste service provides a simple and environmentally friendly way for residents to dispose of grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, leaves and small branches without the need for trips to the recycling centre. Collected every two weeks, all garden waste is sent for composting, helping to support a greener Mid Devon. Two brown wheelie bins

Councillor Josh Wright, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery and Continuous Improvement said: "Our garden waste service offers residents a convenient and cost-effective way to recycle their garden cuttings. At just £61 per year for a ‘slimline’ bin - just £2.35 per collection - it provides great value while helping us reduce waste and support our environmental commitments."

For those who do not require regular collections, compostable sacks are available on a pay-as-you-go basis at £1.80 per sack. These can be purchased individually and used as needed, making them ideal for occasional garden clear-outs.

While the Council has a duty to collect household recycling and rubbish, garden waste is an optional service. To keep costs as low as possible the service operates on a subscription basis — meaning only those households who choose to use it pay for it.
