Despite some recent rainfall, and the forecast of a storm this weekend, Devon remains in severe drought after months of exceptionally hot, dry weather.

Rivers, reservoirs, and groundwater supplies are still under pressure and will take time to recover water levels.hand on a bathroom tap

While a hosepipe ban is currently in place across Devon, meaning residents must not use a hosepipe for non-essential purposes such as watering gardens, washing cars, or cleaning patios, South West Water is also looking ahead and has applied for a Drought Order, which could bring in further restrictions in Mid Devon.

Everyone can play their part to reduce the impact of the drought and to help ease pressure on our district’s water supply. All efforts to reduce water consumption, from taking shorter showers, turning off the tap while cleaning your teeth and fixing leaking taps can all make a real difference.

The Council is also looking to play its part, and is reviewing current operations to see how we can reduce water use safely, whilst continuing to provide our services.
