Mid Devon Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment Published
Mid Devon District Council has now published its Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (‘HELAA’).
The HELAA is an assessment of land in Mid Devon that has been brought to the attention of the Council by landowners, developers and others through two ‘Call for Sites’ held in 2021 and 2025, which may have potential for development for housing and economic uses, renewable energy and habitat creation.
The HELAA contains technical information about land that is available and suitable for development and is capable of being achieved, but it does not determine that planning permission will be granted, or whether a site will be allocated for development within a Local Plan or Neighbourhood Plan.
The purpose of a HELAA is to identify the potential future supply of land which is suitable, available and achievable for housing, economic and other development uses. It is an important source of evidence to inform plan-making and decision-taking. This HELAA will be used by the Council to help make choices about which sites should be included in a new Local Plan and consulted on as part of draft proposals for the future planning of the district. Details have been published about the new Local Plan (‘Plan Mid Devon’) available on the Council’s website.
