From Monday 15 September, Mid Devon residents will be able to recycle unusable metal pots and pans as part of their regular kerbside recycling collections.

Following a successful trial in Willand and Uffculme between February and May 2025, and a subsequent Cabinet decision in August, this new service has now been made a permanent feature of the district’s recycling service.

Residents should place their unusable pots and pans on top of their recycling boxes for collection - handles can be left on. Teflon-coated items will not be collected and should be taken to your local recycling centre.

Councillor Josh Wright, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery and Continuous Improvement said:

“I am delighted to see an additional recycling stream coming into practice. Each household has a really important contribution to make in maximising our recycling rate and bringing real benefits to our district and community.”

Since October 2022, when the Council launched its Bin-It 123 scheme, recycling rates have significantly improved thanks to actions of residents with more than 58% of all waste now being recycled.

Residents are encouraged to continue putting their plastics, bottles, cardboard, and paper in their recycling boxes, and to put food waste into the blue caddies. Every item recycled helps to reduce the district’s carbon footprint, generates additional income that can be reinvested into local services, and keeps Mid Devon tidy.
