Aerial view of St George's Court Tiverton.Further tenants have now moved into Mid Devon District Council’s St George’s Court development in Tiverton, marking a major milestone for the riverside housing project.

The scheme is made up of 28 social rent and 11 affordable rent units, within a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom terrace and semi-detached houses, and two three-bedroom semi-detached houses.
These high quality, energy-efficient properties feature modern, fitted kitchens with integrated appliances, elegant bathrooms, generous room sizes, and allocated parking, including secure under-croft parking bays with lift access to the apartments.

The 10 houses in the development were let to local families who moved in during the Spring, while tenants have been allocated to six apartments and are currently in the process of moving in during October.

Mid Devon Housing, which allocates the council’s housing stock, has now advertised the second block of flats for rent and are currently working on shortlisting applicants for a further eight apartments.

Councillor Jane Lock, Cabinet Member for Housing, Assets & Property, said:
“We are delighted to welcome more tenants to this development, welcoming more people to their new homes and really bringing this development to life. Providing high-quality, affordable housing is key priority for this Council and this project is a significant step in meeting the needs of our community.
“In addition to increasing our social housing units, this development brings several benefits: it will enable downsizing, freeing up much-needed larger family homes, significantly reduce utility costs for incoming tenants and boost footfall this part of the town centre. We look forward to seeing all properties occupied soon.”

St George’s Court, which began construction in August 2018 and won a national housing design award for its architectural innovation, is positioned in the heart of Tiverton and offers a stunning waterfront location with views across the River Exe.

The development supports the Council’s wider Housing Strategy, which aims to deliver 500 new social housing units over five years, to support the supply of affordable homes in the district and retain a sustainable stock of council housing.

To celebrate the completion of the development and welcome new residents, the Council is hosting a community orchard planting event on the 5th December 2025 at 11am, providing an opportunity for tenants and local residents to come together to create a green space to benefit all.  Further details will be announced and residents will be contacted in the coming weeks.
