National Day of Reflection – Covid 19
Mid Devon District Council is recognising this year’s National Day of Reflection, which will take place on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
The day marks an opportunity for people to come together to remember those who lost their lives as a result of the pandemic and to recognise the work and acts of kindness shown during this unprecedented time.
Councillor Gordon Czapiewski, Chair of the Council, said:
“The pandemic touched the lives of every person across the UK. For those who faced bereavement, or long term ill effects as a consequence of Covid, the impact has been profound, and for some potentially lifelong. That's just one reason why taking time to reflect and remember is so important. Children stopped going to school, many shops and businesses were closed and we were no longer able to spend time with friends and family as normal. This day of reflection is a time to remember the people we lost and the sacrifices made by many.”
Councillor Les Cruwys, who was Chair during the pandemic, added:
“I'd encourage us all, whether individually or alongside your families, friends and community groups, to take a moment to reflect on Sunday 8 March. For every family member and community affected, we reflect on their pain, their love and their grief but we also remember the community spirit that shone through and we thank those whose work carried on relentlessly, supporting us all."
