Gates to enhance customer experience, security and safety are being installed at the entrance to two of Active Mid Devon’s sites.

The new access gates in Tiverton and Crediton ensure that only members and authorised visitors gain entry, helping to protect the value of memberships and prevent unauthorised entry. They also make the process of entering the centres quicker and more seamless, especially during busy periods. In addition to the security benefits the gates also provide leisure staff accurate data on customer numbers, which ultimately helps with staffing and making sure we have enough staff for the busiest times.

Accessibility has been a key consideration in the installation. The gates include wider entry lanes, making them suitable for wheelchair users, carers, and families.

Customers with the Active Mid Devon app can scan a code to gain entry for quick access, and for those without the app an alternative will be available as either a key fob or a wristband. Staff will always be on hand help customers at our reception desk as well.

Councillor Josh Wright, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery and Continuous Improvement, said:

“These new gates mean our staff can spend more time helping visitors enjoy their experience at our centres, while keeping a closer eye on safety and usage. We’re always looking for ways to improve our facilities and the services we provide. If you have the Active Mid Devon app you can scan for entry and for those who don’t our leisure staff will be on hand to swipe customers through, or you can pick up a fob or wristband.”

Active Cullompton will be using the same entry system to scan in via the Active Mid Devon app, fob or wristband, but this will operate the automatic entry door, rather than internal gates, and will only operate at times when additional security is needed.
