Progress is well underway on Cullompton Cricket Club’s new facility, which forms part of Cullompton Relief Road infrastructure work.

The high-quality cricket outfield is on Horn Road, to the east of the M5 and its relocation is a critical step in delivering the Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road, a project designed to ease congestion, improve air quality, and unlock future growth across Cullompton, including the proposed Culm Garden Village.

Land was previously acquired to support the development of a new cricket facility, with a cricket square subsequently completed in early autumn 2024. The outfield works, currently progressing steadily thanks to dry and settled weather, are on track for completion by autumn this year, allowing play to begin in the 2026 season.

Councillor Steve Keable, Cabinet Member for Planning & Economic Regeneration, said:

“This marks a positive milestone for both the Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road project and the local community. We’re not only taking a step forward on essential infrastructure, but also investing in a much-valued local sports facility that will benefit residents for years to come.”

The new outfield is being built to the latest England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) standards and includes modern drainage and irrigation systems to ensure play can be maintained throughout the season. It is hoped that the new cricket ground will eventually form the centrepiece of a larger sports hub envisioned within the Culm Garden Village development.

Further works to support the relief road are expected to begin in the CCA Fields and around the football pitches during August, with major works scheduled to follow in 2026.
