Mid Devon District Council is developing six new traditionally built council homes at Wordland Cross, Cheriton Fitzpaine, in partnership with Blubox Developments.grey empty home

The scheme will see four end of life properties replaced with six high-quality, energy-efficient homes for social rent, helping to meet local housing need while making better use of the site.

Councillor Jane Lock, Cabinet Member for Housing, Assets & Property Services, said:

"These new homes at Wordland Cross are an example of the Council delivering high-quality social housing where it is needed most. With more than 1,000 households currently on our housing register, developments like this make a real and immediate difference to local families. The development will provide affordable homes for local people and help us meet growing housing demand across Mid Devon."

The scheme will provide two three-bedroom and four two-bedroom houses. Each home will benefit from dedicated parking spaces, cycle storage and outdoor amenity space.

As well as increasing the number of social rented properties available, the new homes will improve the appearance of the site and provide modern, comfortable accommodation for future tenants.

Alex Willis, Director of Blubox Developments, said:

“As a Mid Devon business, we’re proud to be delivering these new homes at Wordland Cross. It’s great to see the Council investing in contractors from the area. It keeps work, jobs and spending in the local economy, and supports the local suppliers we work with. Quality is at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking forward to working closely with the Council and the residents of Cheriton Fitzpaine throughout the build, and we can’t wait to see the finished homes handed over to their new tenants.”

The Council is currently developing eight other sites and working on proposals for an additional four across the district - information on all of these schemes is available on the Mid Devon Housing Development Hub.
