Pool Pods Proving a Success at Active Mid Devon Pools
The new Pool Pods at Active Mid Devon’s swimming pools are helping more people enjoy swimming safely and independently.
Since being installed in February the Pool Pods at both Active Tiverton and Active Crediton are being used on average four to five times a week.
The Pool Pod 3.0 is a discreet, fully automated pool lift designed to help people with reduced mobility, disabilities, or additional support needs get safely into and out of the water. Operated at the touch of a button, it gently lowers swimmers into the pool and allows them to enjoy swimming with greater independence, comfort, and dignity.
The feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with social media users commenting:
- “This is amazing-my mum loves swimming but hasn’t been able to do the steps for years, so this will be great for her.”
- “That’s such good news as I love swimming but getting in and out of the pool since my nerve damage has been hard. I get nervous that I might slip and fall. Excellent new facility!”
- “Fantastic!”
Andy Mackie, Operations Manager for Leisure, said:
“We’re really pleased to see the Pool Pods already being used regularly and, most importantly, being received so positively by swimmers. We hoped they would make our pools more accessible and help people feel confident getting back into the water, and it’s fantastic to see that happening.”
The pods have been funded in part from Sport England and the National Lottery which provided £15,000 towards the purchase and installation of the pods.
