We setup a Forum for Gypsies and Travellers, which was approved by our Cabinet on 1 March 2018, and follows the good practice established by the Teignbridge Gypsy and Traveller Forum:

The Forum has since been renamed to include Travelling Showpeople.

The Forum will usually take place twice a year, with meetings in the spring and in the autumn. These meetings are welcome for everyone in the Travelling community, whether Gypsy, Traveller or Travelling Showperson to come along and find out more about planning, housing, and other matters in Mid Devon. We welcome suggestions about things that you would like to hear about – please do get in touch and let us know.

If you have any questions or would like to register your interest in attending Forum meetings, please email

Our next meeting

The next Forum meeting will take place at 3pm on Thursday 2nd March. This will be held on-line via Zoom, so that a consultancy, Opinion Research Services, can join us to explain more about a survey that will start soon to help us find out about current and future housing needs of the Travelling community in Mid Devon.

Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment 2022

We are working with Exeter City Council, East Devon District Council and Teignbridge District Council to undertake a new Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA). The last GTAA was completed in 2015 and a new GTAA is needed to help us find out more about current and future needs for new sites and pitches across the study area. This information can be used by the Councils in the preparation of their new Local Plans and can also be used help inform planning applications submitted to the Councils for determination and the decisions made on these. The GTAA will involve a survey of Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople households in Mid Devon to find out about housing needs.
