Tenancy Agreements 2025

Your Tenancy Agreement
Your tenancy agreement explains the conditions of your tenancy and says what we must do as your landlord, and what is expected of you as our tenant.
Becoming a tenant means that you take on certain responsibilities both to us, as your landlord, your neighbours, and to the wider community, in which you live.
Changes to Tenancy Agreements
In 2024, Mid Devon Housing stopped using new Flexible Tenancies. These tenancies were reviewed after a set period, and tenants were usually offered another fixed-term agreement. However, many tenants told us they found this process stressful and uncertain.
We listened and made a change. We no longer offer Flexible Tenancies to new tenants. If you're still on a Flexible Tenancy from before 2024, it will automatically become a Secure Tenancy when it ends—no review needed.
If you want to know when your Flexible Tenancy ends please contact your Neighbourhood Officer.
What Happens When You Become a Tenant?
All new tenants start with an Introductory Tenancy. As long as you follow the rules during your probation period, you’ll be offered a Secure Tenancy.
Most of our tenants now have Secure Tenancies. This means you can stay in your home for as long as you like, unless you break the terms of your agreement.
Updates to Tenancy Agreements in 2025
In 2025, we updated our Secure Tenancy Agreement. We removed all references to Flexible Tenancies and made a few other small changes. As required by the Housing Act 1985, we asked tenants for feedback before making these changes.
We sent out a formal notice to all of our secure and introductory tenants, called a Notice of Variation, on 12th November 2025, and the new agreement came into effect on 10th December 2025.

Modular Build Tenancy Agreement
If you move into one of our modular homes, your tenancy agreement will be slightly different from the one used for traditional homes. This is because modular properties have different building materials and ventilation systems, which come with specific rules you’ll need to follow.
