The normal working week for a full-time employee is 37 hours, Monday to Friday, although some jobs require other patterns of attendance.

There is a flexi scheme in operation for most employees. Dependent upon the opening hours of the building in which the employee is located, the working day for participants of the scheme is within the range of 7.30am to 7.30pm unless otherwise specified in your contract of employment.

All services need to be staffed during public open hours: 9.00am to 5.00pm (Monday to Thursday) and 9.00am to 4.30pm (Friday).

Up to two and a half days (pro rata for part time employees) flexi leave can be taken in any accounting period, with the agreement of the Manager.

Annual leave

We offer a basic leave entitlement of 24 days annual leave, rising to 28 days after five years' service, pro rata for part-time employees.

The annual leave year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

Starting salary is normally the first point on the appropriate scale. Subject to having been in the grade for six months, one salary increment is paid on the 1 April each year until the maximum of the grade is reached. Employees appointed between 1 October and 31 March in any year will be entitled to an increment after six months' service, and in subsequent years, 1 April increments will apply.

Your salary will be paid directly into your bank/building society account on the 22nd of each month.

See Pay Grade Scales 2016-17 for a list of pay grade scales.

The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) Pension Scheme. This means that the benefits you build up are worked out using your pay each scheme year.

Normally, you would be made a member of the LGPS automatically when you start your job unless you choose to opt out.

Pensions are transferable between Local Authorities and certain other public bodies.
