Private hire operators

A private hire operator is someone whose business involves making provision for the invitation and acceptance of bookings for private hire vehicles. A Private Hire operator's licence is required to enable a person to accept or invite bookings for Private Hire Vehicles.

A Private Hire vehicle must be booked via a Private Hire operator before the journey carrying passengers commences. A Mid Devon Private Hire operator can only operate a Private Hire vehicle driven by a Private Hire driver, both of which have been licensed by the Council.
