New financial support schemes now live for Mid Devon residents
Mid Devon District Council is pleased to announce the launch of two new schemes to help residents who are struggling with the cost of living - the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF), and the Oil Support Scheme.
The schemes are funded by the Government as part of its response to rising living costs and financial hardship.
The Crisis and Resilience Fund is there for households going through a difficult time financially - whether that’s a sudden drop in income, rising bills, or an unexpected event. It offers short-term help to cover essential living costs. Similarly, Housing Payments (formerly Discretionary Housing Payments) are available through this fund for those needing short-term help with housing costs, such as a rent shortfall, or exceptional housing pressures, where no other support is available.
The Oil Support Scheme helps lower-income households who rely on heating oil (common in rural areas where mains gas isn’t available) with the cost of buying oil when energy prices are high.
Councillor John Downes, Cabinet Member for Governance, Finance and Risk, said:
“We know times are tough for a lot of people right now, and we want residents to know that help is available. These schemes are designed to be practical and accessible - whether you’re facing a sudden financial shock or struggling to keep your home warm. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you think you might qualify.”
Both schemes are supported locally by CHAT (Churches Housing Action Team) and Navigate, who help residents through the application process, provide advice on housing and debt, and connect people with the right support for their situation.
