1.0 Responsibilities of the Council 

The Council will: 

1.1 Offer a chargeable garden waste collection service to all domestic properties within Mid Devon District Council borders. 

1.2 Accept garden waste presented in either a registered brown wheeled bin with a valid subscription or approved biodegradable sacks. 

1.3 Collect from registered customers on scheduled collection days. 

1.4 Empty containers presented at the designated collection point. 

1.5 Collect garden waste from the same collection point used for residual waste. 

1.6 Cease collections where annual subscription fees are unpaid until payment is made. 

1.7 Collect real Christmas trees when presented correctly. 

1.8 Not empty contaminated containers. 

1.9 Not provide refunds for part‑year cancellations. 

1.10 Deliver or collect unwanted bins within 10 working days of request. 

1.11 Ensure refurbished pre‑used bins meet a suitable standard. 

1.12 Exchange damaged bins free of charge. 

1.13 Reserve the right to remove bins left on the highway on non‑collection days. 

1.14 Provide an assisted collection service to registered customers. 

1.15 Return for valid missed collections reported within 24 hours. 

1.16 Reserve the right to change collection schedules for operational reasons. 

1.17 Not empty containers weighing more than 90kg. 

1.18 Collect every two weeks except during severe weather. 

 

2.0 Responsibilities of the Customer 

2.1 Clearly mark bin with house name or number to ensure easy identification and collection 

2.2 Store the container within the property boundary between collections. 

2.3 Place only permitted garden waste items in the container. 

2.4 Present the container at the designated collection point. 

2.5 Put waste out no earlier than 6pm the day before and no later than 6am on collection day. 

2.6 Return the container to the property after collection. 

2.7 Leave unrequired containers empty for collection by the Council. 

2.8 Inform the Council if you move within Mid Devon or no longer require the service. 

 

3.0 Payment Terms 

3.1 Customers are charged an annual fee per container. 

3.2 Renewal reminders will be issued before the end of the subscription period. 

3.3 Subscription fees are non‑refundable. 

3.4 Payment can be made online or by phone. 

3.5 Customers may subscribe to an unlimited number of bins. 

3.6 All containers remain the property of Mid Devon District Council. 

3.7 Persistent contamination may result in service removal without refund. 

3.8 Customers are responsible for containers and may be charged for non‑returned containers. 

3.9 Collections missed due to severe weather or circumstances beyond the Council's control will not be refunded.
