About this job

PERMANENT: PART TIME 23 HOURS PER WEEK
SALARY: Grade E - £17,777 – £19,283 Per Annum (subject to pay award.)
LOCATION: TIVERTON

We have an opportunity for Validation Technician to work in our Development Management Planning Support team.

You will work in a team of four Validation Officers whose main duties include the registration and validation of all planning applications and pre-application submissions. This includes checking all submissions against both national planning requirements as well as the Mid Devon Local Validation Checklist as well as calculating and checking the relevant planning fees against the national application fee calculators for planning applications and Mid Devon’s pre-application fee structure for other requests and proposals.

You will identify relevant consultees and notify local communities and residents of application submissions and produce sites notices and weekly lists of applications for local papers.

You will support the Arboricultural Officer plotting Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s), maintaining the TPO register and dealing with associated searches.

The team also supports the appeals function, registering new appeals against our decisions and managing the timetables for appeals submissions as well as managing the administration of in person hearings and public inquiries.

You will be able to demonstrate effective team working and case management skills, progressing multiple applications at the same time, advising applicants where proposals lack necessary supporting documents and ensuring these are received in a timely manner.

You will be used to working under pressure, to tight deadlines and cope with conflicting priorities. As well as numerate, you will need to interrogate and input data into a variety of software systems which requires an eye for detail and accuracy.

The wider Development Management team consistently exceeds national targets for the speed of determination of all planning application types and minimises delays wherever possible in processing application proposals and requests. Your role will often be the first point of contact with our service and provide the initial impressions of the services efficiency and effectiveness. You should be committed to delivering excellent services and maintaining effective relationships with other officers, members, and other key stakeholders/partners.
