SALARY: Grade G £35,412 - £38,220 Per Annum
LOCATION: Willand
We are seeking a Refuse & Recycling Supervisor to join our dedicated Waste Management team. This is your opportunity to take charge of daily refuse / recycling operations, support a high-performing team, and make a real impact in delivering a reliable and customer-focused service to our community.
Key Responsibilities
As Refuse Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role by acting as the crucial link between operational crews and management. You will:
Lead and support refuse collection teams on a daily basis.
Foster a culture of health, safety, and accountability, ensuring best practices are consistently followed.
Manage staff rotas and coordinate resources to maintain full service coverage.
Drive team performance through recruitment, development, and regular reviews.
Oversee and manage vehicle checks, acting promptly on any issues.
Supervise agency staff when required.
Organise daily crew dispatch and ensure timely return of vehicles to the depot.
Conduct induction training for new staff and flag training needs to management.
Assist with round assessments for both efficiency and safety—providing clear, written instructions to crews.
Step in to drive LGV and 7.5T vehicles when operationally required.
Respond proactively to missed collections and ad hoc service requests.
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings:
✔ Strong leadership and organisational skills
✔ A proactive attitude and ability to motivate teams
✔ Sound knowledge of Health & Safety practices in operational settings
✔ Experience in managing rotas and operational planning
✔ Experience in using Whitespace or similar Route collection software
✔ Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
✔ A commitment to delivering high-quality public services
A valid LGV or 7.5T licence is essential.
