Grounds Maintenance Operative

PERMANENT: 37 hours per week
SALARY: £19,312 to £19,698
We currently have vacancies within our Street Scene & Open Spaces operational teams based at Hitchcocks Business Park, Willand and covering the whole of the Mid Devon area.
You will be required to carry out a range of Grounds Maintenance duties, as part of a team, across the district of Mid Devon, as well as carrying out works in our two cemeteries.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, physically fit, conscientious and caring. A flexible approach to work is essential as you will be required to assist with all tasks relating to Grounds Maintenance and cemetery services.
Examples of the work you will be required to carry out, include:
- Grass cutting
- Attending to flower beds
- Hedge cutting
- Digging, bedding and planting
- Hoeing and general weed control
- Sweeping, litter and leaf collection
- Cemetery work (including some hand grave digging)
- Assist with tree and arboriculture work
- Miscellaneous work in emergency situations
The hours of work will be 37 hours per week (hours for the post are annualised and are longer days in the summer months, generally between 7.30am and 4.30pm to deal with the growing season and 8.00am and 3.30pm in the winter months. A driving licence is essential for; driving to site, mowers and tractors. A trailer towing entitlement would be advantageous.
There will be an open day taken place at Carlu Close Depot, Hitchcock’s Business Park, Uffculme, Devon, EX15 3FG on 14 June 2021.
