Premises Licence Annual Fee Scam Warning
The Licensing Team have had a report of a scam targeting owners of licensed premises. The scam involves a fake Licensing Officer contacting businesses and claiming that their premises licence annual fee is due. Similar reports have been received across the country.
If you hold a premises licence, please be aware that your annual fee will be due at the same time every year. The Licensing Team will remind you of this via letter in the first instance and this will contain clear instructions for payment.
What to do if you receive a suspicious visit or call:
- Do not give out personal information to an organisation or person before identifying their credentials. If in person, ask for official identification.
- Avoid making payments through unverified methods or to unfamiliar accounts.
- If ever in doubt, contact the Licensing Team directly via email licensing@middevon.gov.uk or call 01884 255 255.
- Report a suspicious call or message to Action Fraud (https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/)
